Start a Pathway Toward an Associate of Arts Degree

An Associate of Arts (A.A.) offers course work appropriate for students planning to transfer to a four-year institution and pursue a Bachelor of Arts Degree.

While certain courses are recommended, the requirements are 42-hour General Education Core coursework as well as 18 elective hours appropriate for baccalaureate degree programs in Philosophy.

Students should always consult with an academic advisor regarding transfer to a specific college or university. In addition, students should consult with an advisor at the Texas college or university to which they are transferring for additional information.

An Associate of Arts Degree from Southwest Texas College provides the foundation for transfer to a university. Completion of a bachelor’s degree with a major in Philosophy or Humanities develops strong critical thinking and communication skills while promoting personal and social responsibility—qualities required in a variety of career settings.
